Our mission history

While the Uganda Union Mission will be celebrating 100 years of existence in 2027, the Midwestern Uganda Field will be celebrating 94 years since evangelism reached the Tooro region.
It began with a Jew named Sanger William, a tea farmer and investor growing tea in Kiijura, Kabarole District in 1933. He married Aida Kasamba Atenyi from Mwenge County, Kabarole District, and later married Yayeri. The two ladies bore (Berick Sanger, Jack Sanger, Pera Oliver, and James Sanger).

Sanger later received another Sabbath Keeper, Pr. Lindi E. Magdalon, in 1944 with his wife, who was a medic, and his children. They established a health center called Kagorogoro Health Unit. Lindi started preaching, and the fruits of his labor were Supiria Bagambaki, Erifazi Balinda, Yosamu Katabarwa, Zerubaberi Nyakaana, and Erinora Kakuliremu. This group later went to Kyamutasa in Kyenjojo, where Hezron Kahwa and Rwakihembo received the Adventist message, and a worship place was erected there.
When Lindi saw the necessity of extending the mission to other territories, he approached the king to give him a place for establishing a mission. He was guided to go to the mountain, and in 1945 the king donated Kazingo land, where he started the ministry.

On October 10, 1946, he conducted the first evangelistic meeting and gained some converts. Lindi came with Yonesani Kobwemi and Yosamu Katabarwa for language clarifications. That year, Mary Kahinju, Samwiri Kahwa, Isack, and Absolom Ndyanabo were baptized, with Ndyanabo being a son to Mary Kahinju.
From Kazingo, the gospel spread to Mugoma in Kabarole and later extended to Mitandi when Pr. Lindi came into contact with an investor in 1947 named Fredrick Daniel West, who was cultivating tea and coffee. Lindi got interested in his estate and bought it, marking the beginning of Mitandi Adventist Hill work in 1948.
